How safe are the San Blas Islands and our belongings?
The San Blas Islands are considered one of the safest destinations in Panama. The Guna Yala territory is a self-governed region with a deep sense of community and respect, especially for visitors. We work directly with trusted Guna families and guides who treat guests like extended family — and safety is a priority at every step of the journey.
When you travel with Sea San Blas, you can feel confident knowing you're in good hands.
Is it safe to walk around the islands?
Absolutely. The islands we visit are peaceful, welcoming, and small enough to explore comfortably. You'll often find yourself among other travelers, locals, and families who are there to relax and enjoy the beauty of the region.
Are my belongings safe?
Yes — but we always recommend using common sense, just like you would anywhere else while traveling:
- Day Trips: Keep your bag with you or in the boat when swimming or exploring. Our guides are always nearby to help.
- Overnight Stays: You can safely leave your belongings in your cabin. Most cabins can be locked, and many islands have staff who remain on-site throughout the day and night.
We’ve never had a safety-related incident involving personal belongings on our trips, and we work closely with each island to maintain this level of trust and care.
Pro Tips
- Leave valuables like laptops, expensive jewelry or large amounts of cash back in Panama City or bring only what you truly need.
- For peace of mind, we recommend bringing a small combination lock or dry bag if you're extra cautious or traveling with electronics.
