What Type of Boats Do You Use for the San Blas Transfers?

We use licensed, twin-engine motorboats designed for safe and efficient travel through the Guna Yala region. These boats are operated either by our own trusted team or by local Guna boat captains who we work with directly as part of our community partnerships.

Most boats seat 15 to 25 passengers, while larger vessels can accommodate up to 30 people comfortably. All boats used on our trips meet regional safety standards and are regularly maintained for performance and passenger safety.

A few things to know about the boats:

  • All boats have life jackets for every passenger
  • You'll board from a small dock or beach — no large terminals or ports
  • The ride can be bumpy depending on weather, so we recommend securing valuables in a waterproof bag
  • Seating is open-air and shaded on most boats, but we suggest wearing sun protection

Our captains know these waters well — many have been navigating the islands their entire lives. You’ll be in capable hands from start to finish.
